It's my mother, Gitte's 50th birthday today! She had a big party for all of her friends and family Saturday and we stayed up 'till the early morning celebrating her and playing all her favorite Elvis songs (all his songs..)
Here she is with me in her lap in the late (-you guessed it..) 70's... The photographer must have applied an orange filter -in real life her hair was brown and mine blond.
Even though she was born in the same year as Barbie she never actually had a real Barbie doll herself (they were too expensive...) only a rip-off called a mannequin doll. For Mother's Day this year I bought her a real Barbie doll, a reproduction of the 1959 version with dark brown hair. I made a 1950's inspired wedding dress for it using tulle and vintage lace with lily-of-the-vally flowers on it (my mothers favorite flowers..) She loved it!
For her birthday my sister and I got her a gift card for a tattoo! She's always wanted Tinkerbell from her favorite cartoon Peter Pan, but never did.. now she's going to! She was so happy!
Love you, Mom!

Happy Thanksgiving!
For obvious reasons we don't have Thanksgiving in Denmark but this year I've actually been invited to my first ever Thanksgiving dinner. My childhood friend Michael met and fell in love with Jenny who grew up in Oregon. He invited the lovely lady to live in Denmark and they got married last month. They've basically just come home from their honeymoon but has still taken the time to be so kind and invite all their friends to a traditional American Thanksgiving dinner. I'm so excited.. and thankful...! They are vegetarians though so I'm not sure about the turkey?!...

Hello Ladies!
In case you hadn't noticed I'm a bit of a nostalgic and at home I sometimes find myself missing the stationary phone... The handle, although heavier, was so much nicer to hold than the mobile and it seemed to fit your ear better too... Not to mention the cord you could play with...
..and just look how pretty it looks when ladies flirt, chirp and chatter on the phone...
The master of phone chatting pin ups was no doubt George Petty....
Do you miss it? -or do you, in fact, still have one?

Feather Fans
Here's a pair of my favorite earrings! I have this style in every color! ..and several other styles similar to these... I found the first pair about ten years ago they were pink and it was love at first sight! They reminded me of Sally Rand and her feather fan dance...
I just "opened" an Etsy shop where I listed earrings just like these (I was lucky to find more of them deadstock!) See more here!
I will be listing more items as soon as I have time to take more photos....

The girl with the million dollar legs?!
I just found out that my legs have the same measurements as Betty Grable's!!!
Thigh 18.5", calf 12", and ankle 7.5"
(Don't know about the actual lenght though.. I measure 5'5" a tiny bit more than Betty's 5'4"....)
How weird is that? (-both the fact that they're the same and the fact that I actually measured...) Sad to say that I haven't had the same success with my legs as Betty did and was in fact called Bambi when I was younger because of my skinny legs...
Okay, I realize I might seem a bit obsessed with Betty but it's all in fun I assure you. I know I don't look like her nor do I strive to do so. I'm simply inspired and enchanted by her, I wouldn't dream of actually comparing myself to her....
Nevertheless, here they are: Betty's famous gams, pins, drumsticks, pillars, stems, uprights, get away sticks... You name 'em she had 'em....
"There are two reasons why I am successful in show business and I am standing on both of them."
(Oh, and in case you hadn't noticed I borrowed most of the photos from Life....)

"I used to be Snow White but I drifted"
Not really sure if Mae West was telling the truth but these two ladies actually were Snow White.
Telling her story...
Dancing
Singing...
Crying..
Biting...
Marjorie Belcher also known as Marge Champion was only a teenager when she was chosen as the model for Snow White's movements.
(She later modelled for the Blue Fairy in "Pinoccio" and the Dancing Hippo in "Fantasia")
Marge and her second husband (her first husband Art Babbitt was a top animator for Disney...) Gower Champion teamed up and danced in many successful MGM musicals during the 40's and 50's such as "Showboat" and "Lovely to look at".
All dressed up..
..glittered up..
Adriana Caselotti was the voice of Snow White.
Overhearing a conversation between her father who was a voice coach and a casting director for Disney, the 19-year-old Adriana got on the phone and began to sing and talk in a young girls voice. The embarrassed father ordered her of the phone, but not before the casting director had invited her to audition. After Walt heard her the rest was history...
On a sidenote... Those shoes! Snow White lit the spark of my shoefetish! Before I had a Barbie doll with perfect tiny plastic shoes I saw Snow White and her to-die-for bow pumps and wanted them! To this day I still search for the perfect Snow White shoes -I still haven't found them ... Maybe someday I'll have to have them made for me...
